The Shure BETA 87A is a premium supercardioid handheld electret condenser vocal microphone designed for professional sound reinforcement, broadcasting, and studio recording. It offers exceptionally smooth frequency response and can handle high sound pressure levels, making it ideal for demanding environments. Built for touring and field production, the BETA 87A combines outstanding performance with durable construction. Its controlled low-frequency roll-off compensates for proximity effect and eliminates the “boomy” sound common with close-miking, while the signature Shure presence rise enhances the upper midrange. The tight supercardioid pattern, with null points at about 125 degrees, delivers excellent isolation from other vocalists or instruments and reduces off-axis coloration. The BETA 87A requires phantom power to operate.
