"XENYX X2442 SHINES HIGH ON FEATURES AND VALUE..."
Feature:
The effects are great. The reverbs, delays, chorus, etc. offer a real selection to choose from. The board layout is very straight forward and intuitive and there are enough inputs to satisfy any small to medium sized band.
Quality:
I've had this board for over 2 years now... no issues. I have quite a few other Behringer pieces of equipment... no issues.
Value:
If you're on a tight budget, this board delivers more bang for the buck than anything out there. Ignore the nay-sayers.
Desirability:
It was a great buy... so I got it.
Sound:
I use this board for live performances to mix everything from our vocals to electronic drums to piano & keyboard. I've rigged it to feed our PA amp with a separate feed for sub-woofer. The board is versatile, well built, quiet, has great effects and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. The one thing you need to get use to is the "British" equalizers. But once you get the knack, you're off and running.
Ease of Use:
As I've said, it's very straight forward. If you're a smaller band and don't have a sound man, it's easy enough to set up and get the right sound... set it and forget it.
Support:
Because I also have a powered mixer, I once ask how the "power output wattage" was rated. I quickly got a response but it was a "song & dance" as they said their rating couldn't be converted to "continuous average watts" or "RMS" values. (C'mon guys, it's only math...I guess the low number would embarrass them.) But at least they responded quickly.
Overall:
My first Behringer mixer was a powered mixer which I stated in another review to be a waste of money. I said "get a decent power amp (QSC, Crown, Peavey, etc.) and then get THIS mixing board." I followed my own advice and haven't been sorry. This boards got all the features I need and it works perfectly, day in, day out.

"Versatile, reliable Mackie workhorse mixer."
Feature:
As others have mentionned, it might be nice to have a second hi-z input channel for guitar & bass concurrently. It comes with a license for Tracktion 3, which really makes this a worthwhile investment. Every sequencing software has idiosyncracies, but this works well. Using the USB from computer to mixer works as expected; and a nice feature is that you can switch from USB feeding EVERYTHING back to the computer; or my preference of feeding in ONLY what is being added via audio inputs - making it a breeze to add tracks. Other limitation is that you can't seem to get the on-board effects recorded via USB - that feed is BEFORE effects, so if you want to record with built-in reverb, for instance, you have to record via audio outputs.
Quality:
Seems solid - although I haven't packed it up and moved it around very often. Works as expected. Sliders give a nice visual for which inputs are currently running.
Desirability:
For a 12-channel mixer, it's a nice size and looks semi-pro.
Sound:
Truly transparent; as a mixer should be. So far I've only used this in a home-recording environment, and it works very well.
Ease of Use:
Very intuitive to use; although for effects /tape out/ etc it helps to have the schematic with you. Uses a standard power cord, and not a power brick !
Support:
Haven't had to deal with them for the mixer itself. Web site for license registration on Tracktion has been unavailable a few times - which is a concern, as Mackie's direction for supporting Tracktion in the future isn't really clear.
Overall:
I got this with the intention of recording; but with the capability of gigging with some friends . If 12 channels is enough, this would do the job.

"Fully featured mixer at a great price!"
Feature:
The mixer has inbuilt effects and effect send/ return that can be sent to any channel. A good compressor is built into each channel. Phantom power is available for any mics that need it. There is only one thing I miss - no solo buttons on each channel, but for the standard of features this mixer has I can overlook this. A Behringer ASIO driver is supplied but I use ASIO4.DLL with no issues so far.
Quality:
The desk is well constructed and attractive with good quality connectors, knobs and faders. The main mix send has gold tipped male XLR connectors. As long as the unit is stored in a road case for transportation it should fair up as well as any other desk for live work.
Value:
Great value for the features.
Desirability:
It's a very tidy looking mixer, not too large so it fits well in a home situation.
Sound:
This mixer is brilliant! I am able to record on my pc with no latency using the inbuilt 16 bit 48kHz USB sound card . I now use the desk as the main recording source for any instrument with ease and combined with the inbuilt effects some very professional sounds can be easily achieved. Effectively your pc can be used without a sound card with this mixer as the sound can be redirected back via the USB return. At this stage I do not use this mixer for live gigs but I can tell there would be no issues.
Ease of Use:
The controls on the desk are simple to use (even for a novice) It may take a little while to figure out how to set up effect parameters as the instruction manual isn't clear on this, but again it isn't difficult.
Support:
I haven't had personal experience with Behringer yet but a close friend of mine has and he has nothing but praise for the efficient way his mixing desk was quickly replaced ( 3 days) when a fault was detected in it.
Overall:
This mixer has all the features I require for my home recording and for what I payed for it I am very satisfied. I chose Behringer under recommendation from a friend who owns a complete Behringer PA system and loves it.

"The perfect front end for my studio. "
Feature:
Before I bought this mixer I was curious about the inserts. The manual only says they can be wired to be pre firewire but does not say that if you push the pre/post firewire button that lets you record the eq wet or dry, you will indeed get the insert in that mix. Very cool for playing your guitar with say, a POD but recording dry for later for processing. Or if you want to compress to tape, as we would have said all those years ago.
Quality:
This thing is worth every penny. It ties my whole studio together. Makes everything else better. My last Mackie (1604 VLZ Pro) is 17 years old and is still our live mixer. So in my opinion,as long as you like the Mackie sound the quality isn't even in question.
Value:
It cost a pretty penny for those of use on a budget but the payment plan here at zZounds puts it within reach of those of us who have other bills to pay to. And after my last cheap mixer I've learned yet again that, you get what you pay for. And this thing is worth every cent.
Desirability:
It's ease of use and familiar feel nice lines great look. It makes my studio desk look way more pro then that old silver mixer I had.
Sound:
Compared to my old budget firewire mixer, this thing is a world class studio. I went cheap last time so I could get a few bazillion other things I needed to build my studio. And boy did I miss having a Mackie. This was the last piece in the link. And it makes everything else I spent the last two years buying, sound amazing. I feel like I'm hearing all my gear for the first time.
Ease of Use:
Having been a child of the analog era, and lived thru the analog verses digital war, this is my home. Most of my problem with using a more conventional interface is the software mixers and all that. I don't really have to deal with all that. No headphone mixes and no latency. I run hardware reverbs thru the aux sends and those don't get recorded so my singers got his comfort reverb. No software mixers to deal with.
Support:
I've never really had to deal with Mackie support because their stuff just works. I've never had one break unless it was my fault. And by break I mean fall out of a fourth floor window and smash into the concrete. Otherwise I've dropped them off the desk numerous times.I made a couple of dents and bent this or that, but they always kept working. So I have never made even one phone call to Mackie support.
Overall:
I expect to be using this product until it breaks or a new technology comes out that replaces firewire. Whichever comes first. Most likely as with my previous Mackie purchases I will end up selling it in a few years so I can get the bigger one.
