Pioneer CDJ-850 Professional CD/Multi-Format Player

Pioneer CDJ-850 Professional CD/Multi-Format Player

"For the money and getting the best of both worlds I choose the 850s. The money I saved on not getting the 900s will go towards a"

Feature:
Power cord, Manual, Stereo Phono cable, Control Cable, Forced Eject Pin, and a copy of rekordbox software (1.4.1 updated) / only for managing! ...no link feature ...and another -1 each for none of these: No Slip mode* that fully maintains groove accuracy The new Slip button lets DJs perform such tricks as looping, reversing or scratching of music without ever losing the flow or even a beat. The music continues to play, muted, as DJs perform, for example, a looped segment and so always returns – bang on beat – when the looping is complete. No Quick Return* scratch enables the slickest tricks By turning on the Quick Return scratch feature, DJs can make the CDJ-900 jump back to a set cue point as soon as they touch the Jog to perform a scratch. This makes it easy to perform beat juggling tricks without having to find the beat perfectly every time. No Advanced Auto Beat Loop* for improved performance When a 1, 2, 4 or 8 Auto Beat Loop button is pressed the Auto Beat Loop function automatically finds the beat segments from that point in time, making it simple to play a precisely timed loop. To expand the creative looping options available to DJs, the CDJ-900 is capable of 10 different variations of loop right down to 1/16th of a beat. I honestly find the loop function useless on this model. Doubt it will be fixed in an firmware update. And no link feature that allows you to play from a single source. With the 850s be prepared to use rekord box and a few USB sticks, as the the waveforms will show up instantly. The waveforms reading from CDs are slow.. even more so than older CDJ models (search youtube for examples of this) fix in a future firmware update?

Quality:
The entire unit, cue/play buttons feel solid enough. Knobs and sliders are fine.

Value:
Get your CDJs in Black, Link feature, Loop quantisation and then some for 952$ more.. or you could save your money for a laptop/coffin case/headphones and a few USB sticks.. I really like the S4 and some of new digital controllers look promising, but i feel i made the right choice going the 850s.

Desirability:
I actually prefer the black, though @ almost $1000 less the silver looks fine.

Sound:
No surprises here, 128Kbps mp3s will sound caca compared to 320Kbps.. people will argue that there is no difference, I beg to differ. 850s (HID and a 24 bit audio interface) / 900s are said to have a better enhanced 24bit audio interface.

Ease of Use:
Straight forward, Industry standard?. (hope im not sounding like a fan boy) Every club/gig Ive ever played @ had pio's so to be honest i didn't even consider any other brand.

Support:
Neutral as Ive never had to contact them for anything.

Overall:
I think the CDJs will still be around for a while. Youre getting the best of both worlds. 28.02.11 prices in Australia: CDJ 850s>$979 (x2@ $1958) ---$952 more for: CDJ-900s>$1455 (x2@ $2910) ---$1490 more for: CDJs-2000s>$2200 (x2@ $4400)

Usual Price: $899

Pioneer CDJ-2000 Professional CD/MP3 Player

Pioneer CDJ-2000 Professional CD/MP3 Player

"I LOVE THE PIONEER CD-J 2000"

Feature:
Multi-format playback is very useful giving teh ability to play MP3, AAC, WAV and AIFF files from CD,DVD-ROM, SD card and best of all from USB memory devices. Rekord box software is great for large collections of music. You can connect multiple CDJ2000s to one music source thru the ProDJ Link. The display is incredible especially when linked to your rekordbox library.. You can see the album art, any comments you've loaded along with any other metadata on the file. The needle search is slick too.

Quality:
Very confident regarding the Quality of Pioneer products.

Value:
As the standard, the price is fair.

Desirability:
There's a few reasons the CD-J 2000 was at the top of my list from an "appeal" stance... besides knowing it is the standard, and what is most likely to be at any club I dj... if you look over the shoulder of any world class DJ in a photo, you will most likely see the CDJ-2000!!

Sound:
It's the best in the industry.. the standard for clubs & DJs playing EDM.

Ease of Use:
Very easy. But read the manual to get the most out of it.

Support:
I have not

Overall:
I'm kind of old to begin investing in DJing so I knew if I was going to spend, I would not want to re-spend and would want something to last me a good while. If mine were lost or stolen.. I would replace it with another one. I recommend anyone who invests in this caliber of equipment have it insured. It takes the edge off of worrying about anything happening to it & it puts a replacement plan in place.

Denon DNS3700 Tabletop CD/MP3 Player

"The best Pro DJ product to come along in years, I can see why they are always back ordered."

Feature:
It has a power cord. Not many other accessories to play with. Not really needed.

Quality:
Denon is equal or better than Pioneer from my experience. I have had both.

A bit pricey compared to the market, but Denon always has been, you get what you pay for.

Desirability:
Can't wait to get another one!!

Sound:
It has it's own dedicated sound card that sounds better than most CD or DVD players I have listened to. Very full and great clear bass.

Very easy, did not even need the manual.

Never needed it, hopefully never will. :-)

Overall:

Numark NDX800 Tabletop Scratch CD Player

Numark NDX800 Tabletop Scratch CD Player

"With the new downloads save yourself some money and get two of these hot machines and spin with the best of them!"

Feature:
Did include all of the accessories needed to get started. Most useful feature usb thumb slot (sweet).Wish you could layer more than one effect at a time.

Quality:
Seems to be pretty solid, has a good feel in weight.

Value:
Very well worth it.

Desirability:
Very well made and eye saavy.

Sound:
I read some reviews where they said the sound quality was awful, i disagree, i think the sound is great and i use it without my sonic maximizer. From being a DJ for over 25 years one thing i depend on is sound quality. The only problem i have had with the sound on this machine was poorly burned cd's and poor quality downloads on thumb drives other than that it sounds superb.

Ease of Use:
Very easy to use hands on that is. I do not use it as a software controller so i can't relate to that part of it.

Support:
They have always been helpful to me.

Overall:
I think it will hold up just great but i feel buying a case is just plain common sense with any mechanical product.

Numark NDX400 Tabletop Scratch CD/MP3 Player with USB

Numark NDX400 Tabletop Scratch CD/MP3 Player with USB

"Corrupted Media loves the Numark NDX400!"

Feature:
I've been a DJ for a long time now, and this numark is one of my favorite cdjs to date. So inexpensive but power packed with features that I actually use unlike some cdjs that give you a bunch of crap that doesn't really work well. Personally I like it better than my Pioneer CDJ 200, mainly because of the full range pitch adjustment that gives you full control, as well as the indispensable hot cue functions.

Quality:
Only had this one for a few weeks, but its already been to the desert a few times and its holding up really nicely, Its great for traveling and the pots and faders arent removable so no worrys taking it to a gig to make a little cash using your equipment cuz no ones gunna steal your faders. The rubber feet on the bottom do a great job preventing slippage, we've used it off the hood of a car and not had a problem.

Value:
great value! you really cant go wrong with this one if you've got around $200 to spend on a new CDJ.

Desirability:
This thing is hot! great for djs with thumb drives, I've gotten a lot of good feedback when I take this thing out to a party. I'm actually looking to add another to my set up soon

Sound:
The sound is amazing, Numark has really stepped up their game in the last few years

Ease of Use:
Super easy to use, only thing I would like better is if the play pause were continuous with the cue function like on pioneer models

Support:
Honestly, I have yet to have a problem with any of my numark gear, its so well built that I've never had to call customer support in the 10+ years I've been using it

Overall:
Only reason I'd go a step up is if I came into some money, but at this point I'd be happy getting just another to match it. I love it and it has yet to do me wrong
