New music store!

Alright its not strictly new but it is the new onthedex layout! Due to problems in the supply chain we have stopped selling cds and dvds and have decided to concentrate on our first love, musical instruments and hardware!

We feature music equipment from two of the UK's biggest music stores as well as the addition of ZZounds, an American company and one of the biggest online music stores. Lots of cheap music gear can be had from zzounds.

Hand Held Cabasa from Gear4music at a great price!

The Cabasa, originating from an instrument called afuche, is a percussion instrument that is constructed with loops of steel ball chain wrapped around a wide cylinder. The cylinder is fixed to a long, narrow wooden or plastic handle. It was originally of African origin, and constructed from dried oval- or pear-shaped gourds with beads strung on the outer surface. Our modern version is a more durable cabasa, sometimes called an afuche-cabasa. It provides a metallic, rattling sound, similar to the sound of a rattlesnake.

Remo Kids Tubano 22``x 10``

Remo
A Remo exclusive, the Tubano (too-bah-no) is a newly-designed, modern version of the traditional Afro-Cuban Conga drum.

Although it can be played using the same techniques and patterns as the Conga drum, the Kids Tubano is slightly larger in size than the Kids Konga. It also has two other major differences. First, inside the Tubano is a special sound chamber that amplifies the low tones of the drum. Second, the Tubano features unique cut-outs at the bottom of the drum which allow more of the sound to escape while also making the drum more stable when played on the floor. Remo Kids Doumbek 10`` x 6``

Remo
The Remo Kids Doumbek (doom-bek), although similar in shape to the West African Djembe, is based on the drums of ancient Egypt and Persia.

It is played using individual finger strokes, ripples, and snaps to create fast, intricate rhythms and a variety of tones. One way the Doumbek differs from other percussion instruments is that it often incorporates irregular metric (rhythmic) patterns that are based on "odd" 7, 9, and 11-note groupings instead of the "even" 2s, 4s, and 8s that are common in other musical styles. In the Middle Eastern percussion section, the Doumbek is joined by other instruments, such as the Zils (finger cymbals) and Riq (high-pitched tambourine with heavy metal jingles). Remo Kids Djembe 14``x 8``

Remo
The Djembe (jem-bay) originally comes from West Africa, where it has historically been used in both religious and secular (popular) music.

The Djembe (jem-bay) originally comes from West Africa, where it has historically been used in both religious and secular (popular) music. The unique shape of the Djembe allows it to produce three distinct tones: a very deep bass tone when played in the middle of the head, a mid tone when played off-center, and a dry, high-pitched sound when played at the edge. In addition, different parts of the hands, palms, and fingers are traditionally used to create the characteristic variety of Djembe sounds. Remo Kids Timbale 10``/12``

Remo
Played with sticks instead of hands, Timbales (tim-bah-lees) are another Afro-Cuban rhythm instrument.

They consist of two pitched drums, one high and one low, mounted on a stand. In Latin music, the Timbales keep the beat that helps the band play together. Sometimes the Timbalero (Timbale player) plays a steady pulse on the shell (side) of the drum and sometimes he or she will keep a steady beat on a cowbell. Once in a while the Timbalero will play a series of rapid notes called a "fill-in" to add excitement and punctuation to the song. Remo Kids Bongo Set 5``/6``

Remo
Bongos (bon-gos) are an important part of the Afro-Cuban family of rhythm instruments.

Normally held between the player's knees and played with the fingertips, the bongos have a high pitched sound that can be clearly heard over the other instruments. Like many drums and percussion instruments from around the world, the sound of the bongo is different when played at the edge of the head and the middle of the head. Bongo players combine these sounds and rhythms between the high and low bongo drums to create "patterns" that other players and listeners can easily recognize.
