Puff Daddy Tries Widgets to Promote his Vodka

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

The alcohol industry is regulated heavily by the Federal Government as to exactly how and where it can advertise, and that includes online. As such, I was particularly interested to see Ciroq Vodka, the brand produced by Sean “Puff Daddy” Comb’s Bad Boy Entertainment and Diageo, expand its online advertising efforts to include the use of shareable widgets.

Why Won’t You Let Me Study The Internet?

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

Posted by Danny DoverI like to think that I was born just in time to live through the first truly global revolution. I am a 20 year old student who has watched computers and the internet transform the world. Unlike my predecessors, I rarely watch live TV, never listen to the radio and haven’t bought a CD in nearly a decade (last one was Offspring’s Americana). Between my fraternity, my campus, my city’s wifi initiative and my job I have access to at least one broadband wireless internet connection at any given time. I get excited when I get a single letter of normal mail even though I send more e-mails in a single day than my parents do in a month. My world is different than earlier generations, it is functionally held together by the world wide web.

Video and Images in Search Results: SMX West

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

Posted by Jane CoplandIf there’s one thing that doesn’t seem to receive terribly much attention, it’s image and video search. There has usually been a session at every conference, but images were often ignored in favour of both paid and regular organic search. Along came blended results and everybody takes more notice. According to the Video, Images and Blended Results session, image search only accounts for 7 - 15% of all search engine activity, so it’s hardly surprising that the integration of images and video into regular SERPs is a relevant topic.
