AlwaysOn: Online Viewers vs. Online Ad Dollars

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Is there a disconnect between the number of online viewers and the amount of advertising dollars spent online?

Advertising executives today weighed that question at AlwaysOn in New York City, a conference that examines technology’s impact on marketing, advertising, and media.

For Real Networks, Low CPCs but Less Traffic with Sendori

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Following a second round of funding in November, third party domain redirect marketplace Sendori recently enabled phrase and exact match options in its auction-based system. When advertisers win bids on generic domains, the system redirects users that have directly-navigated to that domain to advertiser sites. Direct navigation occurs when a user enters a URL into a browser window. For instance, a user who directly-navigates to CreditCardDeals.com might be redirected to a Visa offer landing page through the Sendori system.

Take the SEO Industry Survey

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Posted by rebeccaNote from Jeff: I’d like to apologize to those of you who took the survey within the first few minutes of release.  Since we released the blog post and sent out an email to our members, we’ve received a very quick & fast influx of traffic all at once - much higher than normal.  We analyzed the problem, made some changes to our web server configuration, and are should be running much better now - albeit a tad slow.  If you have any issues, however, please feel free to contact me.

Vote for the SMX West Search Bowl Contestants

Monday, January 28th, 2008

Posted by randfishLast week, we asked for your help in nominating candidates for SMX West’s inaugural Search Bowl - a game of trivia that pits two intrepid search marketers against teams of two from each of the four major engines. Due to the writer’s strike, there won’t be a televised black tie, red carpet event. Instead, without further ado, here are the nominees:

surveys - Take Our Poll

Voting will run through to next Tuesday, when we’ll announce the two winners. If any winners cannot make it, the selection will pass to the person with the next most votes.
BTW - Scott will be officially announcing it soon, but it’s looking like SEOmoz will have a sponsored session on using premium membership at SMX West, open to all attendees (full conference and networking pass attendees). More to come!
p.s. Anyone notice that PollDaddy has gone to a freemium business model? Can I just say again how much I like that model :)Do you like this post? Yes No

Sculpting with Nofollow Works Pretty Darn Well

Monday, January 28th, 2008

Posted by randfishBack in mid-December, SEOmoz made a number of changes to our use of the rel="nofollow" tag on the internal link structure of this site. We nofollowed dozens of links on many of our template pages to help control the flow of link juice through to our more important pages - the content in the Blog, YOUmoz, Marketplace and Articles.

Did Clinton and Obama National Ad Drops Dis the Web?

Friday, January 25th, 2008

So, all the news sites are covering the big semi-national ad drops by the Clinton and Obama campaigns. The irony, in this case, I suppose should have been expected: The news sites didn’t get any of those ad dollars. From what I could tell in browsing and refreshing countless pages on big national news sites today, including CNN.com, NYTimes.com, WashingtonPost.com, FoxNews.com and Yahoo News, the campaigns have neglected Web ads when it comes to this big national advertising push.

Yesterday Google’s online political ad manager Peter Greenberger posted its rules on political ads. There are some interesting regulations involving personal attacks, donation landing pages and misleading ad copy.
