Screen Recorder Discount Coupons for BB Flashback & BB Flashback Express

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

I found a 50% discount for the popular screen recording software BB Flashback. The catch is you have to donate money to DonationCoder.com to be able to access the forum post with the discount code. There was no minimum donation policy when I joined but I am not sure if this will remain the same in the future.

Is There a Market for Dynamic Ad Placements in Downloadable Media?

Friday, August 24th, 2007

ClickZ published a story today on a move by Podbridge, a podcast ad management and ad network firm, to expand its offerings beyond a dynamic ad insertion and measurement method it pioneered for downloadable media. By allowing hard-coded ad placements and the measurement of mere downloads (as opposed to actual ad views), the firm seemed to suggest there’s a stronger market — or at least an unignorable one — for static ad placements versus dynamic ones.

If You Were SEOmoz… Would You Take Outside Investment?

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

Posted by randfishI’m taking a temporary break in conference coverage (don’t worry - there will be more next week) to poll some of the smartest people I know (that’s you, SEOmoz readers), about an issue that’s been keeping Gillian and me up plenty of nights during the past 3 months.
SEOmoz is at a tipping point of sorts - we’ve gone from being primarily a search marketing consultancy business to one that’s heavily focused on an SEO product - premium content & membership. In the 6 months since launch, we’ve had approximately 1800 people sign up for our premium membership, of which ~1200 are members today (looking at our subscriber details, it appears that many folks will sign up for one month, cancel, then sign up again 3-4 months later).
Right now, SEOmoz membership and content isn’t for everyone. If you’re someone who regularly works on multiple site campaigns, the tools are terrific. If you need a little bit of strategic consulting or experienced professionals to bounce ideas off, the Q+A is great (BTW - sorry for my slower than normal responses due to the conference). Even novice search marketers can get a lot of benefit out of the guides & tips. However, there are certainly folks for whom premium membership isn’t a terrific value - our goal is to change that.
We’ve recently been working with a venture capital firm, thinking about investment from them, as well as considering other options like private financing. Why? Well there’s a lot of things we want to do, like:

Fix the iPod Shuffle 1418 Error with the iPod Shuffle Reset Utility

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

I thought my 1st generation 512 MB iPod Shuffle was dead since last year. I must have left it in my drawer for at least 1 year. Today, I decided to try my luck to see if it can be revived so that I could use it during my run a few hours ago. I suspected my iPod Shuffle had a firmware problem because I remember this was my 3rd iPod Shuffle. I had it replaced twice within a year. This particular iPod Shuffle went dead very shortly after I got it replaced and my 1 year warranty expired at about the same time too.
I don’t like the iPod Shuffle because it seems really fragile. Moreover, it does not have a screen to display my MP3 song titles and I hate using the iTunes software. Nonetheless, I wanted to see if there are any fixes for the infamous iPod Shuffle 1418 error in iTunes 7 since the last time I tried to fix it.
I downloaded the latest version of iTunes after waiting a long time for the download page to load up. Apple must have improved iTunes because they no longer separate iTunes and the iPod software. I used to have a lot of crashes when I plugged in my iPod but I was surprised to see my iPod was actually detectable. Unfortunately, I still received the 1418 unknown error when iTunes tried to update and restore my iPod Shuffle’s firmware.
Just when I was ready to throw in the towel, I did a search on google for “iPod Shuffle 1418″. I realized I was not alone! I saw a web site called 1418Hell.com (down at the moment) that was dedicated to this bug. I scoured Apple’s web site to find the iPod Reset Utility and it took me some time before I finally found a working link to the Windows version.
Here are the official iPod Shuffle Reset Utility 1.0.2 download links:
